Antonius (Toon) W.M. Groenendaal received his Msc degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University Eindhoven. In 1981 he joined the patent department of OCE-Van der Grinten as patent engineer and was active in IP-creation and IP-risk assessment for the copying machine and word processor business. In 1985 he joined the Phillips Intellectual Property Group. Here he qualified as Dutch and European Patent Attorney. After been active in the optical recording field and as groups leader of the Information Technology IP Group he was appointed as IP Portfolio Manager in 1995.
As Vice President IP Portfolio Management he was responsible for building and maintaining the Philips patent portfolio for the Product Divisions Consumer Electronics and Business Electronics and for counseling these Product Divisions in IP-issues in joint developments, relations with suppliers and customers, IP-assertions against Philips, IP risks and M&A-transactions.
In February 2008 he became IP Scouting and Acquisition Manager. In this position he was responsible for scouting valuable third party IP and for the acquisition of the those IP. He represented Philips in defensive patent pools as a member of the Board of Directors of Allied Security Trust and as a member of the Advisory Committee of RPX.
